KPA Evicts 28 Workers That They Sacked For Striking

The Kenya Ports Authority has evicted 28 workers from their homes. The same 28 were sacked on Friday, July 3, 2015 for participating in a two day strike.

The evictions came during the afternoon of Sunday, July 5, 2015 in Mombasa. The early eviction notices came with angry responses from local residents. The head of the KPA’s housing department returned later in the afternoon with riot police in tow.

One shop owner told the Daily Nation“why should a reputable organisation such as KPA hire goons to come and evict us, instead of using its own workers in the housing department?”

Simon Sang, the Secretary General for the Dock Worker’s Union said “let KPA be humane because the sacked workers are already suffering. They should be given the mandatory three-month notice to move elsewhere for the sake of their families.”
