Militant group al-Shabaab launched two separate attacks on hotels in Mogadishu, Somalia, killing at least five people on the evening of Friday, July 10, 2015.
The two hotels, the Wehliya and Siyaad are among the best known in Mogadishu. Al-Shabaab militants attacked the two locations at the same time that people were breaking their Ramadan fast, reports the BBC.
The al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attacks. At least five of the attackers were killed by security forces. A mortar attack on Mogadishu Stadium was also launched.
The stadium houses members of the Ugandan contingent of African Union forces. No one was injured in the incident. The three attacks happened simultaneously.
According to CNN, an al-Shabaab spokesman claimed responsibility for the three attacks. The spokesman claimed that “many” people had been killed in the Friday, July 10, 2015 violence.
The Siyaad Hotel is located near the Parliament building.
