One Kenya Defence Force (KDF) officer was killed on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 in a gun battle between al Shabaab militia and Kenyan soldiers inside Somalia.
KDF however said that seven al Shabaab militia died in the fight that ensued in Gedo.
It is reported that the militia had planted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which was run over by the KDF vehicle, sparking off a gun fight.

“KDF lost one soldier while another is receiving treatment after sustaining injuries,” Col. Cyrus Ogunda, KDF spokespersons said.
The soldiers then recovered 8 AK 47 rifles, two grenades and assorted ammunition.
Ogunda said that the KDF has increased its attacks on the terror group as it intensifies efforts of neutralizing it.

Kenya soldiers joined the African Mission In Somalia (AMISOM) three years ago in fighting the terrorists, a situation that has seen a series of retaliatory attacks launched against innocent Kenyans by al Shabaab.
